In a groundbreaking moment during NGD’s inaugural creative conference in 2021, the community’s leadership affirmed its commitment to growth through innovative products and learning programs. Just last week the NGD team staying true to this commitment collaborated with design professionals to craft a learning session that resonates with the soul of every designer—The Rex Photomanipulation Masterclass.
The First of Its Kind
NGD’s commitment to upscaling growth and transforming passion into marketable skills was the driver behind The Session. Unlike the NGDx conference where multiple design genre’s were discussed , the Rex Masterclass was aimed at improving proficiency in Photoshop for poster designs.
The day-long class focused on leveraging Adobe Photoshop for photomanipulation, allowing participants to dive deep into this aspect of design.
Rex The Master Storyteller
The setup of the class was up-close and personal, giving participants a firsthand view of Rex’s workflow in creating eye-catching designs.
Rex’s movie posters, such as “Battle on Buka Street,” have generated over 600 million Naira in sales. When Team NGD sought a tutor to teach designers how to leverage Photoshop for improving their work, Rex was a natural choice.
Rex works on a photo manipulation in real-time, allowing participants to experience the magic of creating captivating designs and empowering them to replicate the process themselves.
Rex generously makes himself available for interactive Q&A sessions to provide valuable insights and answers to students’ questions.
Participants had the chance to apply the lessons taught during the class while enjoying the love and support from the NGD family.

Creating a Growth-Driven Environment
Before 2021, the NGD lacked its current systems for propelling designers to do their best work or increase their candidacy in the job market.
Fast forward to 2023 and structure is the name of the game; since the 2021 relaunch, NGD has transformed into a cesspool of development, offering competitions with cash prizes and Twitter spaces to foster growth and provide job opportunities for its members. NGD aims to be a driving force behind the sophistication of raw talent, enabling the next generation of African designers to thrive and the Rex masterclass is an affirmation of this endeavor.
The endeavor has so far supported the growth of outstanding individuals like Juliet, whose flair for illustrations garnered recognition from presidential aspirant Peter Obi, and Tobi Otun, the theologist turned logo maker with a global clientele. Additionally, AV Studios, an NGD member, attributes its growth to the platform and recently collaborated with NGD to host a weeklong training program for aspiring brand identity designers.
